We did get within 10 feet of Seacrest, who was riding on a wheeled staircase about five feet above the sea of people who had gathered at 5 a.m. or earlier in the plaza across from the Prudential Center in downtown Newark for a chance to be in the crowd shots and "meet" the "American Idol" host.
